“That makes sense. It’s why we are more successful when attacking with two smaller ships. The first hit weakens the shield and the second hit goes through before it is reinforced,”Radvar agreed.

“They are nearly out of range for Earth,” Collin noted.

“As soon as they are past that point, destroy them,” Radvar commanded.

She knew he had explained that the Dramites were so cruel if they saw they would lose and couldn’t hurt his ship, they might try to shoot at the planet just to cause chaos and death. It was a horrible way to live, but it was their way. Shay had no doubts it was true after seeing the harm they had inflicted on their Earth raids. They were near Mars when Radvar’s ship shot at them and it blew up. Staring at the fireball, she was glad they were destroyed. Even though she was a soldier she normally hated killing, with these creatures she had felt no reluctance or remorse. As long as any of them were alive, every living creature within range would be at risk. She had expected a long drawn out battle with damage and casualties on both sides. It was a relief to come out of her first space battle with her side unscathed.

“Thank God they are gone,” she muttered.

“Darji, it is thanks to me and my crew. Though I am the only one I want you to show gratitude to,” Radvar observed.

“What about Jules?” she demanded. “Did she not contribute to the cause?”

“You want me to thank her?” he asked with a smirk.

Hell no. “I’m sure Collin plans to thank her and he doesn’t need any help.”

He pulled her into his embrace in a public display that made her blush. None of his men seemed to pay any attention to them. “It is the way with mates among our people,” Radvar said. He seemed to see her embarrassment and tried to put her at ease. It did feel good to have his arms around her, it was just that they were on duty and that made it seem odd.

  “What happens next?” she asked.

“We send the video of the battle to the president. Our part of agreement is almost complete. We will give them some medical technology and something that will help them clean up the oceans. We have a type of seaweed that will filter out many toxic substances and neutralize them. It is edible and quite healthy for humans. Talai has already tested it for use on Earth. We will pick up our first group of humans and head to the planets we intend to check out.”

“That’s nice, but I meant what’s next for us?”

“We will continue as we have, living and working together until you see this is the place for you. I am yours and you are mine, but I will have to speak to your president now. The tape has been sent to him.”

“If you don’t mind, I would like to listen in.”

“You wish to talk to him?”

“No, I just want to sit in the corner and listen.” She wanted to hear what the man said when he didn’t know she was there. He’d probably deny everything if she confronted him.

“If you wish to.” He led the way to his office since it was just off the bridge.

She sat in a chair against the wall where she wouldn’t be seen by the camera. Radvar sat down and pushed a button on the screen. She could hear a buzz as the computer tried to contact the president. He answered on the third ring. Someone had no doubt informed him that the Dramite ship had been destroyed.

“Hello, Radvar. I haven’t looked at the vid yet but I’ve heard you’ve had happy hunting.”

“Mr. President, the Dramite ship has been destroyed. We are ready to pick up the first thousand people as we agreed.”

“We only have half of them ready to go. Some of them are reluctant to leave. A few of the females have children that don’t want to leave behind their friends.”

“We’ll take those who are prepared and give you the list of the rest of the people. When we return in one month, they all need to be ready.”

“Maybe if you explained what your goals are it might make it easier to get them to come willingly.”

“Willingly or not, they will come. If they think they can flee, you might tell them that we can find them anywhere and they’ll be flashed to our ship without the benefit of bringing any belongings with them. It will transport them here if they are in the bath, in the middle of having sex, or in the middle of eating a meal. If they have children and they force us to take them, the children might not come with them.”

She listened intently and swallowed hard. This was a Radvar she’d seen little of. Here was the ruler that looked out for his people ruthlessly even at the expense of others. He would do what had to be done and she believed him. The president stuttered and offered excuses but she knew that would do him no good. The call finally ended and Radvar looked over at her.

“Did you hear what you were looking for?”

“It was what I expected. Do you really plan to leave the children behind?”

Radvar smiled at her. “No, but it was a good threat.”

She felt better knowing he wouldn’t separate a mother from her children. She believed he was a good male, but she also knew he had what it took to make the hard choices. “When are they coming on board?” she asked.

“They are already on board. They are in the cargo hold being processed so we can head out now.”

“Maybe me and my team should go down there and help. Some of them must be scared.”

“I believe most of this group was willing to go. There are a large number of scientist, miners, and builders. The scientists are curious, the builders and miners are looking for a better life. You probably should speak to your team and at least introduce yourself to newcomers.”

  “Where are you putting them?”

“Some will be put with their mates while others will have guest quarters.”

“Isn’t that a bit presumptuous to toss them in with a stranger?”

“It’s the most efficient way to deal with 500 people dropping on us at once. Tomorrow we’ll see if anyone needs space before making a decision but for tonight, that’s what they’ll do.”

“Fine. I’m calling my team together and we’ll check on the new folks. If any problems come up with them, I want to be told.”

  “Of course.”

She sent her team messages through the comm she grabbed off the nightstand. They met her in Radvar’s office. “I have something to explain to all of you. I found out earlier but I decided to wait until the Dramites were dealt with and I had more information before telling you.”

“I knew something was going on. I’ve also heard more humans have come on board,” Jules said.

“It’s true; 500 humans, mostly female have come on board. Our government made a deal with the Majuri. If they took out the Dramites, which they have, and gave them some technology, they have their pick of 5000 single humans.”

“Shit! That’s sick, we’re selling our own people now?” Mike ranted.

“Actually, none of us are theirs anymore,” Shay said.

“We are part of the 5000?” Jade asked.

“Yes, we were the first six delivered. The ones in the cargo hold are the next 500. The rest will be picked up after this upcoming mission,” Shay explained.

“What about our families?” Jade said.

“At least we have each other. Some of the others will be completely alone. The reason most of the people were selected was as potential mates.” Shay explained.

“You have to be kidding. Why would any of them want me?” Mike asked.

Shay looked at her uncle who was also Trevor’s father. He had the red hair like her dad but his eyes were the color of cinnamon. The youngest brother in her dad’s family, he had found love at the tender age of eighteen and lost it at the age of twenty four to cancer. Trevor had been born not quite a year into that marriage. Trevor was now twenty two and Mike might be forty one, but he looked more like he was thirty one. He had the tall, well-muscled physique of the males in their family that rivaled the Majuri’s and he was more laid back than the aggressive males on this ship. Shay wondered what female wouldn’t be interested.<

“Not all choices were based on potential matings, some were made based on possible contributions. Some were made on both,” Shay explained.

“That would be you, Sweetie,” Junior observed. “He had his eye on you the second he saw you, whenever that was.”

“What do you mean?” Shay asked.

“He was watching like a hawk before he could see what you looked like. My guess is he checked all of us out before the first time we met the enemy. He wanted to know what he was dealing with. Once he saw you, it was all over for the poor guy,” Junior explained.

She wondered if that was true. Not that it mattered, they were here and they wouldn’t be allowed back on Earth, Radvar wouldn’t let any of them go. “There’s more. If you think to escape, you’re wasting your time. Their particle beam thing can find you anywhere in range. According to Radvar, the range is half the planet or more.”

  “So we’re stuck?” asked Trevor.

“Yes, but you might not mind so much when you find out where we’re going,” Shay said.

“Will you tell us already?” Jules demanded.

“We’re going to check out three class M planets. One will be chosen for colonization,” Shay explained.

“Class M, those are Earth like, right?” Trevor asked.

“Yes, it’s actually a term derived from an old sci-fi series that was popular in the twentieth century. The term became so well known, that even scientists began to use it as the measure of a planet that could support human life,” Jade explained. She was the family’s nerd, to use another old term.

“There’s no way to escape so we might as well enjoy the experience,” Junior added.

Shay wondered if a certain healer was behind his open attitude. None of them were as upset as she expected. “Well now that the explanations are out of the way, we should check on the newbies and see if they are adjusting alright,” she said.

Her team followed her down to the cargo bay. It was an organized disaster but most people seemed to be okay about where they were. A few of the younger women looked sad and one was crying. That was the one Shay approached.

“Hello, there. How are you doing?” she asked.

“I didn’t want to come but they made me,” the girl sniffed and her voice was rough from crying.

  “What’s your name?”

  “Chelsey,” she replied.

“Who made you come?” she asked sure it was the government.

“My parents didn’t want me anymore,” she admitted.

“Sweetheart, if they didn’t want you, you’re better off here because they do want you. What are your interests?” Shay asked.

“I like to grow plants. I was in college studying botany,” she revealed.

“You’re going to love it here and you’ll be able to study plants from a different world and help get some Earth plants established there. How old are you Chelsey?” she asked.

“I’m nineteen. I only had one year of study and there’s still so much to learn. I think it was the money,” she said.

  “What money?” Shay asked.

“The money the government gave my parents. They are offering cash for volunteers to go with the aliens,” she admitted.

Were they substituting volunteers for those selected or just paying to ease the way with the families that were forced to give up their children? She wasn’t sure but she was suspicious of them offering money for random volunteers. If she knew Radvar, those selected would hold up better to the disruption in their lives. It was probably the president’s attempt to keep more qualified and well known citizens by sending untrained and less established people. Would she tell Radvar? She wasn’t sure but it was a possibility. She had a feeling he’d figure things out before they came back for the last of the people.

The girl seemed to calm down and Shay escorted her to one of the desks where a warrior was doing paperwork. “Excuse me,” Shay said. “Could you look Chelsey up and find her room assignment? She’s a bit upset and needs to rest.”

The warrior looked up and his eyes widened. “Of course; what was the last name?”

  “Munroe,” Chelsea said.

  “I don’t have a Chelsea, but I have a Dorothea?” he said.

“That’s my sister, she couldn’t come,” Chelsea said.

The warrior looked at Shay as if wanting guidance. “Just take her in her sister’s place and we’ll work it out later. I’ll discuss it with Radvar.” The warrior seemed relieved not to have to deal with it. Shay didn’t blame him because she wished she didn’t have to deal with it either. Radvar wouldn’t be happy about this.

Another warrior came over to lead Chelsey to her room. She told her goodbye and Shay walked back to her team. They were talking to some of the others who were milling around. “It seems Earth is sending replacements instead of the people on the list,” Junior said.

“That’s what I just found out too. Radvar won’t be happy,” Shay agreed.

“I’m glad you’ll be the one to tell him,” Trevor admitted. What a wimp. Shay figured Trevor wasn’t the only one relieved; the others just weren’t saying anything.

They headed back upstairs now that they had checked on the newly arrived humans. It made sense that most of them were glad to be here since they were volunteers. Radvar stood on the deck, legs spread and hands clasped behind his back as he stared out the huge window at the front of the ship. His posture was rigid and he looked lost in thought.

“I need to speak to you,” Shay said.

He turned his face lighting up with a smile, his eyes twinkled. “I’m always at your service,” he replied softly.

“Why don’t we speak in your office,” she suggested.

His smile disappeared and his body tensed. “Is something wrong?”

“It’s not anything serious and it can be corrected,” she admitted.

They entered his office and he closed the door. “What’s troubling you?”

“The government isn’t honoring your agreement,” she explained.

“Really? What are they doing? They did send 500 people, didn’t they?”

“They did, but few of them seem to be the ones you requested. I’m not sure that some of them might not be better choices but some of the ones you want have a level of expertise you may need,” she observed.

“You make me feel like I have your support when you help me like this.” His husky whisper washed over her.

“This mission is important and people can die when expectations aren’t met,” she said.

“Is that the only reason you told me?”

“I’d like us to be honest with each other. I agreed to give us a chance and I will.”

They stood close to each other but he moved closer still. She could feel the heat of his body and smell his wild male scent. There was chemistry between them she couldn’t deny and it was off the charts. Maybe there was something to the perfect mate legend Radvar’s people had. She’d never believed in soul mates even though her parents were perfectly matched, but maybe she was wrong. She could see his nose flaring and knew he was inhaling her scent just like she drank in his.

“I think we should go back to our room for a while,” he suggested and she knew exactly what he meant. It was what she wanted too. Never before had she wanted a male the way she’d wanted Radvar. Since meeting Radvar, getting into bed with him seemed all she thought about. She nodded as he opened the door that led the way back to their room. It would be a while before they made an appearance back on bridge.

  Chapter 7

  Jaded

Radvar couldn’t wait to get his mate back to their room. He was completely committed to their relationship and he knew he could never let her go. It wasn’t just the incredible sex, not that it wasn’t a good enough reason to keep her, but it was also the fact that he enjoyed being around her. She was capable in any task set before her, she was a warrior, and she was a leader. He also suspected he was head over heels in love with her.

A soon as the door closed
he started stripping out of his clothes. Bare ass naked, he examined her and saw she still had on her Earth One uniform. That would never do, he would have to order a Majuri uniform for her. No, Earth wasn’t the enemy but she was Majuri now and he wanted her to dress the part. Finally naked, she took a step towards him. It wasn’t quick enough so he closed the distance between them and pulled her to the bed. He laid down first and pulled her on top. Seeing her riding him this time would be a delightful change. That way he could reach up and massage her breasts when they came close enough.

She kissed him and her tongue explored his mouth until they were both panting for breath. As she worked her way down his neck, she nipped him. Her teeth seemed sharper than before. Just the thought made him even harder. Aching to get inside her, he arched toward her trying to get her to take the hint. Continuing to work her way down, she paused at his nipples licking and nipping them until they were red and sensitive. When she licked her way down his abs, he squirmed. He began to suspect what was coming next when she got to his lower belly.

Placing her nose to his groin, she inhaled deeply. She blew out her warm breath on his already hard cock and he twitched. When her tongue snaked out and licked the drop of dew off his cockhead, he bucked involuntarily. The female could make him lose any semblance of control. A low and long moan vibrated his throat as she sank his cock into her mouth. Down, down, down she went and he grew even harder. She swallowed and he felt ready to explode but he held back. It felt too good to give it up so quickly.

She bobbed her head and hollowed her cheeks and it felt marvelous. One hand was massaging his big balls and the other stroked his cock below her mouth. Fire thrummed through his body and his release hovered on the edge. His groan filled the air as he felt his body tingle and knew he could hold back no more. Ecstasy filled him as he shot streams of cum into her mouth and she swallowed every drop continuing to suck after the last drop was gone as if trying to conjure more. He shuddered, his cock drained and sensitive to her touch.
