Chief Radvar (The Chieftains of the Majuri Book 1) Page 8
Junior sat next to Shay so she would be last as they went around the circle. “I work in communications including remote control units used for various purposes. I’m sure your equipment will be different from what I’m used to,” he observed.
“Is that the department you wish to work with?” Radvar asked.
“Yes, I would like to see what you have,” he admitted.
“You’ll work with Rasmun. He’s my communications officer,” Radvar directed.
The next one was Jules and he looked at her wondering what she would say.
“I have training as a medic, but I’m actually in research and development. I make better weapons. I also have combat training,” she pointed out unnecessarily. Maybe she was nervous.
“I think you could work with Talai,” he suggested.
“I’d like that,” she agreed.
Mike was next. “I’m a pilot. I fly whatever they put me in,” he observed.
“You can work with Quirry. He’s in charge of the fighters if we end up using them,” Radvar decided.
“I’m afraid I’m just a diplomat. I won’t be useful on this mission,” Jade mentioned.
“I know you can fight if needed. I’m sure you have other interests?” Radvar asked.
“I suppose you could work with Darin on weapons,” Radvar directed.
Trevor came last. “I usually work in structural engineering. I’m also a fair mechanic but I haven’t a clue how to work on your equipment,” Trevor added.
“You can work with Collin. He has a mechanical bent too,” he offered. “Now that everyone has a spot we can move on to the attack,”
“What about Shay?” asked Jade.
“She’ll be with me in command,” he explained. Wasn’t that obvious? Did her people not see what was happening between them as clearly as his people did?
“Of course,” Jade said with a smirk.
“We plan to strike at the Dramites in three hours. It is hopeful that they will not be expecting us and we will get in enough damage at the start that they won’t be able to get away. This has been our problem in the past. We attacked and they went from a standstill to gone in a nanosecond.”
“Why can’t you pursue the same way?” Mike asked.
It was a perfectly good question for a pilot to ask. “Why don’t you ask Collin? That’s in his area of expertise,” Radvar said.
“I can only assume they’ve gotten a technological advantage on us. Our equipment would be dangerous to attempt that with and theirs seems to do it easily,” Collin answered.
“You’ve never suggested that before,” Radvar growled.
“I don’t like the idea, but it seems the only possibility,” Collin admitted.
“That would mean…” Quirry began.
“That they’ve found an advanced planet in our galaxy. They’ll have an advantage our people won’t expect and there’s no way to alert them,” Radvar finished. He didn’t want to think about what an advantage like this might do to the delicate balance that existed between the Majuri and their old enemy the Dramites. They had been cutting their adversary’s numbers and slowly gaining the advantage. That would change if they had superior technology. “There’s nothing we can do for them. We need to worry about the situation we have now.”
Shay examined him. He suspected she’d picked up on something they’d said. The humans didn’t know about the anomaly and they had assumed the Dramites and the Majuri had planned to come to Earth. Radvar had never corrected them because he didn’t think it would be in their best interest.
“You all have your assignments so you’re dismissed,” he ordered. They all scattered like leaves in the wind.
“So what aren’t you telling us?” she asked.
“About what?” he questioned.
She sighed heavily. “You know exactly what I mean. What is the real story about how you came to be here?”
Of course she’d caught that. His mate was sharp. “It’s not a story I’m ready to share with your people. Can I count on you to keep it to yourself if I tell you?” he asked.
“I can do that,” she agreed.
“We were on a routine patrol hunting the Dramite scum that raids along our borders. They eat anyone that they capture even babies. When they have uninterrupted time, they’ve been known to rape females or even males. It’s tortured because of the spikes on their sex organs. They literally tear their victim up inside. They are sadistic creatures and I would see them obliterated,” he described but he had to take a moment to calm down. Speaking of the Dramite’s filthy and cruel acts upset him. He became angry and he felt the pain of the victims weigh heavily on him. He’d seen their bodies and knew what they’d gone through.
“It sad that evil like that exists,” she observed.
“It is, but we can try to fight it and hope to vanquish it. That’s what we were attempting to do. We saw the Dramites but the cowards ran and we followed. We were gaining on them slowly, when an anomaly appeared out of nowhere. It seemed to bend the light that went into it. At first we thought the Dramites had created it somehow, but they were being pulled into it. Unfortunately, we were too close before we saw it and we were sucked in too. It felt odd as we traveled through it and even though it was only seconds, time seemed to stand still. Most of us were dizzy and had headaches when we came out the other side. The scientist think it twisted space and time. Nothing was recognizable on this end.”
“Wow, so you’re lost?” she asked.
“It’s a little more serious than that. We are no longer in the same time and we are past our known space, but we had legends of your planet. We were able to access them and we have some idea of where home is, but we are in the distant past.”
“Is this for real?”
“It is the truth. I don’t think we’ll ever see home again. Our plan is once we deal with the Dramites, we will colonize a planet far enough away from Earth that there will be no competition for resources, but close enough that we can visit or trade with them.”
“I see one problem.”
“What is that?”
“You have a ship full of males.”
“Yes, I’m aware.”
“You intend to find human females to go with you?”
“We do and a few men.”
“Is that part of your deal with the president?”
“Actually, it is.”
Radvar saw when it occurred to her. Her eyes widened and her mouth opened but at first nothing came out. “He sold us?”
Deciding it was best not to answer he said nothing.
“Did you buy potential mates?”
“Yes and we have our choice of the single people of Earth.”
“I wish I could say I’m surprised.” She seemed sad rather than angry so he hoped he’d avoided a fight.
“Does your president do things like this often?”
“Our history is full of things just like this where people are sold out for the good the majority or in most cases for the good of a small group that benefits financially.”
“I’m sorry that your government is corrupt, but I hope you don’t blame me for doing the best I can for my people.”
“I don’t blame you, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to take this sitting down.”
“Your language is so full of colorful sayings. We have many of them in the translator, but that one isn’t there. If I were to guess, I’d say you intend to fight me?”
“I do. I don’t want to leave my home or my family.”
“You left them to go to the moon base.”
“Not entirely. My parents are on the moon base. It’s not the same as leaving the solar system. I won’t deny that I care for you, but I don’t want to marry anyone yet and I certainly have no intention of going light years from home.”
“You’re mine to do with as I will. You’ll stay by my side and you go where I go. I want you to be happy, but I will not lose you.”
Chapter 6
Betrayed
It was common knowledge that the government had little concern for individuals. They were indifferent to the point of being callous and it showed. It was an oversight on her part not to expect being thrown under the bus. It wasn’t that Radvar’s ship was an unpleasant place to be or even that she didn’t have reasons to stay. It was that she was from a large and close family and she could not imagine her life without the rest of them with her. Her parents especially; it would be painful to leave them behind. Besides, there was probably a dozen other family members she couldn’t imagine living without.
She thought about her big sexy, alien. His thick wavy black hair invited her fingers to touch the silky strands. His golden eyes that sometimes seemed to glow when they made love fascinated her. His hard body, sculpted like a god of old, excited her and gave her endless pleasure. When had he become so vital to her happiness? The thought of leaving him cut like a knife but the thought of leaving her home and family was a bitter pill to swallow. Maybe the best thing to do was to just step back and wait to see what happened? She knew her father wouldn’t take this sitting down. He might already be visiting with the president and finding a way to get them back. Then there would be no Radvar. She would lose either way.
She was getting a rush from being carried through the hall over his shoulder. All the blood was going to her already overworked brain. Even though, she’d accused him of being a Neanderthal, this was ridiculous!
“Put me down, damn it! Radvar what’s wrong with you?”
“You are mine!” he growled. “You will never leave me.”
“Can’t we discuss this?” she asked and was glad to see they were at his room.
They entered and he dropped her on his bed. She examined him in an effort to decide how to approach this. He wasn’t being rational and he should have expected her to object to being sold. It was barbaric, illegal, and just plain wrong.
“Can we discuss this like two rational adults?”
“No, there’s nothing to discuss. You. Are. Mine. The discussion is over.”
“Is that how you intend to approach our life?”
“So you admit we have a life together?”
“How would you feel about it if I took you from your ship and spirited you away somewhere you would never see any of your family or friends again?”
“How many people will you miss? How many are there that you would feel pain inside over their absence?”
“Probably only a dozen, but my heart would ache for them.”
She had moved and was sitting on the edge of the bed. He sat down next to her and pulled her into his arms. “In your past I have seen where it was common that females left their families and traveled far away to join with males they had never even met.”
“That’s true. There were mail order brides and war brides. Even now we have many internet brides. These pairings don’t always work.”
“So you have the advantage of knowing we already care for each other and we are compatible in many ways.”
It was a fair point. She’d never known she could feel the excitement in someone’s arms that Radvar had shown her and she admired, respected, and even liked him. Even his high handed tactics often left her breathless and physically, they were incredible together. Shay could also admit that the thought of colonizing a new planet was also thrilling. Earth had slowly left their space program in ruins, reorganizing it just enough to make use of the moon. If Earth had continued the space program, Shay would probably have taken an assignment on a ship and eventually worked her way up to Captain.
“I’d be giving up everything.”
“I know, but your planet isn’t ready to have resident aliens. I would do anything I could to make this easier for you and the other humans that join us. Our plan is to take out the Dramites and then go to this new planet and set up a colony. We will make several trips before all the mates and extra essential selectees have been brought back to our colony. It will be a massive undertaking to relocate my 4500 warriors and the 5000 humans we are gathering.”
“Humans will outnumber Majuri?”
“Yes, the first 4500 will be needed as mates but we have some essential requirements that aren’t covered in our numbers and I can’t depend on mates to fill those positions. We need more people for the mining, building, and especially the farming that a colony being built from scratch requires.”
She reacted to the excitement that she heard in his voice. They would basically be building a new world for a mix of human and Majuri. Radvar would be the king or Chieftain of a new world. They could start things out right. They would have the discretion of how criminals would be judged, how those in need of help were assisted, and what kind of class separation, if any, would be allowed to develop. The possibilities were mind boggling. The only consequence was leaving part of her family behind not knowing if she would ever see them again.
“It’s a daunting task building a community from the ground up. Have you selected a planet?”
“There are three several sectars away just beyond the visible stars from Earth. We want to give the humans their space. I think it will be the second choice that wins the competition but the decision will be made in person. We will leave about a thousand people to begin setting up the colony. There will be several teams. One team will search for resources like metals and fuels. Another team will test all the edible and medical resources. A third team will begin the building using local resources and blending into the surroundings as best they can. We will pick a spot close to a body of water and food sources to begin construction. Eventually, we will cover the planet. I am optimistic and feel we will be successful.”
“It sounds amazing and a bit scary. There is so much we don’t know about other planets.”
“You forget we have been traveling through space for generations. There will be times that things are difficult, but we will succeed. Nothing will stop us. The crew of this ship was picked for their abilities in case we had to resupply on unknown worlds. Those are the same abilities needed for living there. With the addition of the skills brought in by the humans that come with us and a small amount of resources from Earth, it will be a wonderful adventure.”
“When will you go to check out the planets?”
“When will we go to see the planets? First we deal with the Dramites. Once that is done we pick up our first thousand humans and the resources we need. At that point we will go to all three planets before we make up our minds. The journey there will give the humans time to adapt to their new life. Some of them will stay on the new planet, probably most of them, the others will continue back to Earth with us. We will fetch the rest on that trip and the resources we need to take back.”
“It sounds like you’ve planned everything out well.”
“Not everything. There are always things you can’t plan. You are one of those things. I would do anything to make you happy. Commit to giving me a chance.”
It didn’t seem like a lot to ask and she was undecided. “I will have a wait and see attitude.”
He smiled while lowering his lips to hers all thoughts fled except those about him and how good he felt. He leaned back and took his shirt off tossing it to the floor. He stood and she eagerly watched as he removed his boots, pants, and stood before her gloriously naked and ready. Her mouth was dry and she felt moisture accumulate between her thighs. She slid off her shirt and unsnapped her bra then tossed them both to the floor. She removed her boots and stood removing her pants and underwear in one move.
His eyes glowed as they examined her exposed body and her skin heated from his attention. “You’re so beautiful,” he said, but the same was true of him. He was just perfection and could be hers if she only said yes. Was she a fool to be so attached to her family?
He moved to her embraced her and his wild manly scent thrilled her as his touch turned her into an addict. Shay craved him, every part of him. His mouth moved from her mouth leaving a trail of heat all the way down to her breast while his hand cupped and squeezed one breast,
his tongue licked her nipple. She moaned and thrust her breast at him demanding he suck it and he did. He tugged her nipple firmly into his mouth and she whimpered; he raked his teeth over it before releasing it and moving on to the other one. Once he turned her around he pushed her on the bed. She was on her hands and knees as she looked over her shoulder and watched him stroking his hard cock before she felt him move it to her entrance.
She pushed back against him wanting to feel him slid into her slick channel. Her stomach clenched with her need. It felt so marvelous feeling him slowly sliding in until he was fully seated. He pulled out slowly and pushed back in. It was no time before he was pounding in and out and she could feel his heavy balls slapping her near her clit. The sound whooshed through the room and it turned her on even more. He moved one hand into position so he could pinch and pull on her clit. It took him no time to send her over the edge and he followed right after her. She collapsed on the bed and he crawled next to her pulling her up against him.
“Are we okay?” he asked.
“We’re okay,” she agreed.
They fell asleep and woke about an hour later. The shower lured her in and she wasn’t surprised when he followed her. They had another bout of sex in the shower, cleaned up, dried off, and dressed. It was time to go to the bridge to follow the plan. The ship moved closer to the Dramites in small increments but it was obvious when the Dramites noticed. They started moving forward but Radvar’s ship shot forward and fired hitting one of their engines. There was a small explosion and if she understood what had been explained to her, they would not be able to manage warp speed until it was repaired.
“Collin, you have redeemed yourself,” Radvar said. “How did you get the hit on their engines?”
Collin flushed. “It wasn’t my idea. It was Jules who came up with it. I didn’t think it would work but I saw no harm in trying. She said she saw something similar on a sci-fi movie. We sent a double shot with a nanosecond in between. Their shield stopped the first one but didn’t catch the second one. I need to work on our shields because they may have the same weakness.”
