Aeolus (Frozen Origin Quickies Book 2) Page 3
Hercules headed into the building with Hermes falling closely behind. “Plutus says they’ve met no resistance and they have found the caged prisoner. He is a god and they are removing him from the facility. It is Bythos.”
“I know him.” Hermes admitted. “We thought him dead.”
“That is often the case. Origin lived to mess with you guys. Hey, Janus just brought him to us. Get those babies out of there.” Cherish demanded.
“We will.” Hermes promised. “It’s weird that so far there’s only one guard here.”
“I see another one watching Aeolus. Maybe the others have already moved?” Cherish asked.
“That would explain it, but why not move all at the same time?” Hercules asked.
“Maybe they aren’t going to the same place?” Cherish suggested.
“We’re with the babies. Send Saturn to the front door.” Hercules grabbed two babies and Hermes did the same.
When they reached the front door, Hercules handed off the two infants and hurried back for the other. Hermes and Saturn took the babies to an SUV for now. They hurried back and Hercules handed off the last baby to Saturn.
“It’s a baby free zone now, Cherish.” Hercules said.
“Time for you two to take out the guard that watches Aeolus. Plutus and his team found an office and they are getting boxes of files that they are carrying to the back. We’ll have to drive down and pick them up once you have everything clear.” Cherish suggested.
Hercules didn’t mind these missions, there was no excitement at home and he was glad for that. He enjoyed the missions even more when he had skilled help like Cherish and Hermes. The young ones had done well, but they had a limited scope in the mission. Something he was glad of as he and Hermes went to take out the second guard.
Cherish directed them right to him and this guy was awake and had a gun in his holster. Not feeling like making any complicated plans, they just used their superior speed to rush him. The man freaked out and started screaming. Hercules disarmed him and now they would be able to recover Aeolus.
Saturn came when they called restraining the guard who was still yelling. “Keep yelling and I’ll give you a reason to yell.” Saturn threatened and the man shut up. He then led him away and left the others to finish up.
“It’s time to get our brother.” Hermes said.
Hercules walked to the door and opened it. Aeolus didn’t even look up but his breathing told him his friend was awake. “Brother, we are here to free you.” Hercules announced.
“I wish you had come a day sooner. They took the females including my nurse Ange yesterday.” Aeolus said.
“How can you be sure they took her?” Hermes asked.
“They bragged about it. She will be experimented on and suffer greatly. Ange called you, didn’t she?” Aeolus asked.
“I believe she did. She said she was your nurse and she wanted us to investigate in case they were lying when they said you were delusional. It was obvious she was nervous.” Hercules admitted.
“Is there any way to find her?” Aeolus asked.
“I don’t know. We’ll go over the information we’ve gotten from their office and Hermes’ mate will track down the internet leads.” Hercules replied.
“I’d heard some of you were mated. Congratulations Hermes.” Aeolus said.
“It is a wonderful thing, but most are still looking for their special one.” Hermes informed.
“Can you guys unstrap me? I can’t stand this bed or this building. Did you find the babies and the other god?” Aeolus asked.
“How did you know about them?” Hermes asked as he and Hercules made short work of freeing Aeolus from the bed.
“Ange told me. She wasn’t allowed near the other god, but she had caught a glimpse when someone opened the doors and she was nearby. The babies she cared for too. There were two other females, close to delivery, kept here also. “
“That is helpful, but I don’t know where we should look.” Hercules said.
“Mexico, somewhere near the beaches. One of the doctors mentioned he was moving there and glad to be out of here. He said he would enjoy the warm weather and the females in bikinis, but I wouldn’t be going with them.” Aeolus reported.
“That may make all the difference. They had a foothold in Mexico before but the locals turned on them. Maybe those same locals can help us.” Hercules wondered.
“Why would they?” Aeolus questioned.
“They make a great deal of money from their dealings with us and their leader is a fried of Zeus’ mate Sierra. She’s a warrior, one of the ones that raided the facility we were at.” Hermes answered.
“A warrior is a good mate for our leader.” Aeolus agreed.
“Those that have mated have all found their perfect match.”
“That gives me hope that all will find their mates.” Aeolus admitted. “Get me out of here.”
Hercules led the way, their friend needed some TLC and this was not the place to get it. The younger gods were loading the files and whatever else they thought might be useful. Aeolus and Bythos would ride with them. They waited for the other gods to be finished because it just wasn’t smart to leave the young ones there without backup.
Once they were done, they headed back to the airplane. While everyone else loaded the plane, Cherish and Hermes checked the supplies from the clinic to be sure they had gotten enough formula, diapers and other baby needs to make it back to Olympus. It seemed that Origin saw to the babies needs better than they did adults and everything was there.
Hercules had decided to go straight back. At Olympus they would have a more comfortable place to use to find the women that had been taken. It was clear to him they had been moved to a place where other women and children were being kept. There might even be more babies and more gods. The plane took off the second they were all aboard and their seat belts on. There were four child seats on the plane because children sometimes were found, but also the gods sometimes took their children with them.
The remaining baby was the fussiest and Cherish and Hermes took turns holding and comforting the small child with the loud voice. Eventually, he fell asleep around the same time Hermes did. The god held the baby easily even while he was sleeping.
“Holding a baby looks natural to him.” Aeolus commented.
“It should, he and Cherish have one of their own.” Hercules admitted.
“I wasn’t sure if we could have children.”
“So far all the mated pairs have conceived easily. There have not been as many girls born, but we have children of both sexes.”
“I am happy for them. As soon as we arrive, I need to start my search for Ange.”
“They are already preparing a mission room. Some of the best we have are working on finding any hint of a facility in Mexico. Our allies have been alerted and have agreed to help. There is a team going through our hotline tips in case something was missed. We will do everything in our power to find her and the other women.”
“Thank you, Herc. You have no idea how much that means to me. If I don’t get her back, I will never be the same.”
Hercules wondered, was this woman Aeolus’ mate?
Chapter 4
A Tropical Vacation
“She’s throwing up again.” A rough male voice observed. “Dan, how much sedative did you give her?”
“Just exactly what I was supposed to. See here? It says to fill it top this mark and inject.” Dan defended.
“I think you’re too stupid to live. This is a horse tranquilizer and you gave her enough that she should be dead.” The voice confirmed.
“Well, shit. No one told me that. Why can’t we get the stuff for humans?” Dan asked.
Ch
“It cost a lot and the government tracks that shit, Idiot.”
“I’m not an Idiot, Craig. No one told me and I did the best I could.” Dan defended.
“Now you get to do the best you can cleaning up after her and if she dies, you deal with the t
rouble and the body.”
Ah, hell. Ange didn’t want to die. There were so many things she wanted to do and see. She hadn’t even gotten started on her list. First because of nursing school, then because she was trying to be responsible and assure herself some financial security, and finally there was her mother.
“How are the other women doing?” Craig asked.
“They are fine. None of them needed medicating.” Dan observed.
“Lucky for them.” Craig mumbled. Dan probably heard, but chose to ignore him.
Ange felt miserable and unsure if she would survive. Her head ached and she thought it might explode and her stomach was empty, but didn’t seem to know it. Dry heaves suddenly hit her and her eyes watered. She thought she was in a cargo plane in the back where the cargo usually went. The stale air and the vibrations running through the dirty floor didn’t help.
“I hope she makes it until we land and turn her over to the doctor.” Dan whined.
“Me too.” Craig agreed. “Is everything back here secured for landing?” Craig asked.
“Why don’t you help me double check?” Dan challenged.
“Fine.” Craig said and Ange felt a hand reach around as if searching for something.
“Damn man. You feeling up the bitch that may die soon? You’re a real perve.” Dan exclaimed.
“I’m checking her straps, dumb fucker.” Craig growled.
“Sure man. If that’s your story.” Ange could hear the two of them moving around the hold. She felt tired and she closed her eyes and went to sleep.
She heard annoyed shouts and sounds in the background that woke her. Unsure of where she was, she tried to breathe deeply to stop the spinning going on in her mind. Her stomach growled like a beast that had been deprived of what it needed too long, but she wasn’t sure she could hold down food if they gave it to her.
“If she dies, you’ll pay for it.” It was a new male voice. They were probably talking about her based on how shitty she felt. “They raided the place you just left and all the babies and the two remaining gods were taken. That makes her even more important.”
“She looks like she’s better.” Dan observed.
“No thanks to you.” The male said.
“I’m not a doctor like you.” Dan declared.
“You’d have to have a brain to get in med school.” The doctor pointed out.
“Why does everyone pick on me?” Dan grouched.
“I don’t think you’ll ever figure it out.” The doctor said and she heard his footsteps receding.
“Stupid doctors think they know everything.” Dan bitched.
The room grew quiet as Dan stomped out and Ange drifted in and out of sleep. She hoped she’d understood what the doctor had said properly and it meant at least some victims had escaped the clutches of these lunatics. It was just unfortunate these people were still free to add more victims to their list. A list that now included her and they’d started off by nearly killing her. Goodness knew what they would do next.
Ange recognized these criminals were ruthless and the men they hired the dregs of society. They were either like Dan, too stupid for any reasonable person to hire leaving him available for criminal enterprises, or they were like Craig, psychopaths.
None of those conclusions left much hope open for her to survive this experience. At least she could take comfort in Aeolus being free and with his own people. The babies too would have a chance at better lives. She and the two women, would not have the chance unless they managed to save themselves.
Woken by sounds around her, she realized the doctor was with her again. This time he was drawing blood and taking her vitals. Had she had the strength to resist, she would have put up a fuss. It was what she wanted to do, but the energy just wasn’t there and she fell asleep at some point in the middle of it.
“We need to wait another twenty four hours and retest her. The sedative needs to leave her system to ensure the fertility drugs will be effective. The cocktail we give her once the drugs kick in should assure conception. “
What the hell was he talking about? They couldn’t be planning to breed her, could they? She’d run, but she couldn’t even lift her head. If only she’d listen to Al when he’d advised her to leave. Her mother was probably calling her every name in the book. Sandra would think she’d just taken off and left her to die. No one would know she was missing, no one would be looking for her.
Ange finally was able to lift her head the next time she woke. She could move her fingers and she would have tried to sit up if she wasn’t strapped down to the bed. There was nothing she could do unless someone released her. It was a horrible feeling being at the mercy of madmen.
The next time the doctor came in, he set up an IV. “We’ll have you ready for the next step in no time. You’re a strong subject, you survived a hell of a dose of tranquilizers. This will just sting for a second.” He explained as he put the port in place for the IV. Once it was in place, he hooked it up. “Everything looks perfect. I’ll be back to check on you soon.”
He acted just like a regular doctor would with a willing patient. Everyone was crazy around here. Maybe it was all a bad dream, but if it was, it was realistic as hell. The doctor came back and checked her IV. He patted her hand as if comforting her.
“Everything looks good. We’ll have that bun in the oven in no time. It was pure luck that we managed to find you. I can’t tell you how glad I am.” The doctor went on to explain how they inseminated the women they found to be a match. “It’s a cocktail.” He chuckled. “We take a mix of all the god’s seed we have on hand and often, one will take root. The success of the program has been remarkable. Now that we know their seed will only inseminate certain females, we’ve crafted our program to that end. I’m the one that figured it out. At first, no one believed me, but now none of the detractors can deny the results.”
“Are you finished, Doctor Kratz?” A female voice asked.
“Yes, Miss Smythe. Did you need something?” He asked, irritation obvious.
“Only if you want more subjects for your experiments.” Miss Smythe replied. The woman was no pushover.
“Very well. I’ll be there in a moment.” Dr. Kratz answered. “Duty calls, my lovely. I can’t wait until we see our results. I won’t leave you hanging long.” Katz rushed out to placate Miss Smythe.
Ange remembered all the cartoons and movies she’d seen with the sinister doctors like Frankenstein, trying to create new or different life with no regard for those used in their search. At least the babies she’d seen looked human and if she could escape, she and any child she might have could have a normal life.
She went to sleep and she suspected there had been a sedative in her IV. Ange had some awareness of what was going on. There was a bright light directly over her like the kind used in operating rooms. There were other people in the room and she could hear the doctor talking.
“We’re almost done.” He said.
“That’s good because she’s starting to come around. Do you want me to give her another dose?” A female asked.
“What? No, she’ll be okay. I’m sure she’s not fully aware.” He murmured.
“No, but her eyes are open.” The female replied.
“Good, she can remember this exciting day.” The doctor enthused.
“I doubt she’ll want to remember it. She’s not a volunteer.” The female said dryly.
At least someone understood how she felt even though they didn’t seem sympathetic. Ange was sure they doing the procedure Doctor Katz had explained in such detail. Maybe it wouldn’t work? She had always imagined children in her future, but not like this. A husband had been in those dreams too and he had been the man that would love her more than anything.
They were planning her future for her and ruining all her dreams. If she could escape, she would come back with the law and see this place reduced to rubble. Plotting her vengeance, regardless of how unlikely it was to be realized, made her feel a bit better.
“It’s done. This is the first step in my greatest experiment. Once I’m sure conception has begun, I can watch for the right time to make the improvements.” Doctor Kratz observed.
“You do realize this child will likely not be around long or it will be like the demons? It’s the trouble with these kind of experiments. The failures are needed to lead to the successes.” The female noted.
“Yes, yes. I do realize that but I can’t wait to see what I have to work with. Must you be so depressing? This is just the first step in a long experiment, but we should celebrate each step as a victory of its own. We found the perfect female, what are the odds of that? We still had a good pool of god’s seed. It’s like it was meant to be. Now we sit back and wait, but we have other subjects to play with. Things couldn’t get any better than they are right now.”
